When originally conceived the Designer was steered by conventional advice from Neverwinter Nights forums, that being that only a few hundred Areas could be in a single module lest the evil Lag Monsters should swarm upon the machine and render the PLAYERs' keyboards and mice as molten puddles of plastic goo. [Well, OK, we made part of that up, but the threat of lag with area count we got from forums]. Since those early days we have come to understand that the nwserver.exe (Neverwinter Night's server program), when fed only lean scripts and modest Area sizes of up to 16x16tiles, can handle 1337+ Areas (tested with twenty-odd PLAYERS ... and we are ready to test the module with many more PLAYERS - so please do login).
The entire CORE MODULE was built with the notion that it could be cut into two halves (roughly) if the Area-load under high PLAYER-load proved LAGTASTIC. So far, with all our systems coded to date, lag is pretty much non-existent in the module. Neither does it suffer rashes of crashes, nor require regular reboots. In short, it is robust and stable (despite being in late beta test).
In the early days of planning, it was envisioned that as many as 16 servers might eventually be required to host the whole of this campaign world. With the proposed cluster of SIXTEEN SERVERS to thereby permit up to 640 simultaneous PLAYERS to experience this unique Neverwinter Nights Campaign. As the design of the CORE MODULE evolved it became obvious that we were able to far surpass what were the accepted limits of Neverwinter Nights.
The current server has proven sufficient hosting for the CORE MODULE, but also up to three additional EXPANSION MODULES of similar size and giving us a total player capacity of 384 concurrent logins. Should additional expansion servers be required (as for the hosting of additional modules in this group), we are able to link as many servers as are needed. Each such expansion server could support up to FIVE expansion modules (approximately 10,000 Areas), and add as much as 480 additional 'player slots' for player/DM login. All this at a cost of just $68 per month per server. As a purely PLAYER SUPPORTED SERVER, it is a given that that cost will have to be borne from donations (noticed the donate button on this and other pages? THAT is what that button is all about.).

both the financial and the warm-body-playtester sense, but one does

This is a system, which, if the public enjoys and appreciates it enough, can be grown to ever larger scale with the inclusion of additional cities as destinations accessed via ships at port in Dohral and by other means. In a sense this is as open as any PnP RPG campaign - THIS CAMPAIGN WILL NOT ONLY EXPAND BY ADDING NEW MODULES IN THE FUTURE, BUT WILL ALSO BE MODIFIED ITSELF OVER TIME BY THE ACTIONS OF THE PLAYERS AND REPURCUSSIONS OF SAME - post beta test.
